Challenge
A popular streaming platform had trouble effectively informing users about new releases of songs, albums, and podcast episodes from their favorite artists and creators. Sending notifications manually was time-consuming and often delayed, and users who were unaware of new releases lost interest.
Action
- Collecting and analyzing user preferences
The iPresso system tracked which artists, albums, playlists, and podcasts users followed, added to their favorites, or listened to frequently. - Automatic notifications
When a new item matching the user's preferences appeared in the database, the system automatically generated and sent a personalized notification. Depending on the user's preferences and the type of content, notifications were sent as:
- Mobile push notifications: Short and direct information on mobile devices (e.g., “New single from [Artist] now available!”).
- Emails: More detailed messages with links to content, descriptions, and possibly covers (e.g., “Listen to the new album by [Artist] - [Album Title]!”).
- SMS messages: Short and specific messages, such as “New releases for you.”
- Content personalization
Each notification was personalized—it included the recipient's name and the name of their favorite artist/creator, the title of the release, and a direct link to listen to it.
Results
- The open rate of notifications increased by 18%.
- The number of streams of new content within 24 hours of release increased by 16%.
- User satisfaction increased by 14%, as confirmed by NPS surveys.
